Gary Charness (Professor of Economics and Broom Research Associate) uses a novel experimental design to investigate the question of which of two forms of group identity is salient in a public-goods game with endogenous network formation. There has been very little research exploring which form of identity comes to the fore, and this reflects the field environment where everyone has many forms of identity (e.g., gender, ethnic background, social class, etc.). The article is forthcoming in Games and Economic Behavior. He will also be a keynote speaker at the Symposium on Economic Experiments in Developing Countries (SEEDEC), which will be held in Bergen, Norway on Dec 4-5, 2014.
