The Leonard and Gretchan Broom Center for Demography was established in October 2011 as an interdisciplinary research center at the University of California, Santa Barbara, with generous funding from Leonard and Gretchan Broom.
Key issues explored by Center Associates include inequalities across social groups defined by gender, sexuality, race/ethnicity, and immigration status; population-environment interactions; the determinants of population health; migration flows; spatial demography; and the allocation of resources within and among families, workplaces, schools, and other social institutions.

The Leonard and Gretchan Broom Center for Demography at UC Santa Barbara will host a one-day workshop on how policy drives neighborhood change, and how those changes sustain or erode segregation and urban inequality.
Abstract Submission
Send an extended abstract of no more than one page. Submissions are open to faculty and graduate students. If you want to be considered only for a lightning talk, say so in the final comments question of the form. The deadline for abstract submissions is December 15, 2026.
