Congratulations to Dr. Elizabeth Ackert, Broom Center Research Area Director for Population Health, Spatial Processes, and Environment, on receiving a $2.26 million award from the UC Office of the President (UCOP) for a four-year research project on heat exposure and its effects on elementary school children.
Funded through UCOP’s Multicampus Research Programs and Initiatives, the study brings together researchers from UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UC San Francisco. Led by Dr. Ackert, the team will partner with nine California public elementary schools to monitor on-site temperatures, assess current heat adaptation practices, and develop strategies to reduce heat exposure for students.
