Congratulations to Dr. Michael Gurven, Broom Center Research Area Director for Biodemography and Evolution, on his recent publication in the Journal Science Advances. Michael Gurven, a senior author on the paper, finds evidence that skeletal lesions predict adult markers of immune function.

Michael Gurven and the research team examined the cranial tomography scans of 375 living Tsimané adults, Indigenous farmer-foragers residing in the lowland jungle of Bolivia. The authors find that individuals with cranial lesions show markers of compromised immune function.
