Michael Gurven’s research focuses on the biodemography of human aging and longevity, and the contributing roles of infection, intergenerational transfers, familial organization and gender. He is co-founder and co-director of the NIH/NIA-supported Tsimane Health and Life History Project, which currently studies the (1) ecological and lifestyle determinants of heart disease, diabetes and cognitive aging among Bolivian Amerindians, and the (2) changing socioeconomic and cultural landscape affecting Indigenous health.
