Elizabeth Weigler is a PhD candidate and graduate researcher in Sociocultural Anthropology at UC- Santa Barbara. She earned an MA in Anthropology from UCSB in 2012 and BAs in History and Anthropology from Ripon College in 2010. Her dissertation research focuses on the public historical projects of Sikhs living in the United Kingdom, specifically the memory of the First World War, to understand diasporic identity formation and the role of individual agency within processes of communal memorialization and civic engagement. Generational shifts in identity, socioeconomic status, and ethnoreligious subjecthood are explored via heritage (production and tourism) and historical consciousness (cognition and affect). She works with several community-based outreach endeavors in the Sikh and Punjabi communities, and has articles in Brill’s Encyclopedia of Sikhism, vol. 1 and (forthcoming) vol.2.
